About
The work has always been bigger than the title
I started at CBS 42 News in Birmingham as a temp placement through Kelly Services, covering the front desk while the station figured out what it actually needed. Eight years later, I’m still there — but the role has grown into something the org chart hasn’t quite caught up to yet.
Our administrative team is small and tight-knit: our VP/General Manager, who also serves as corporate liaison; the Business Administration & HR Manager, who I report to directly; the GM’s Executive Assistant; and me, running front desk operations and assisting the Business Administration & HR Manager. We work closely as a team to keep the station’s day-to-day running smoothly — and within that team, my own scope has grown well past what “receptionist” suggests: executive-level support, vendor management, expense processing, HR coordination, and building security operations.
That’s the pattern I want to bring to an organization that’s ready to call it what it is: operations management. I’m not looking to do something different — I’m looking for a title and a paycheck that match the job I’m already doing.
This is the gap I’m closing with my next role.

HR coordination
Job posting, interview file preparation, and onboarding logistics support across hiring cycles.
Building & security operations

Receptionist & Administrative Assistant
August 2017 – PresentCBS 42 News · Birmingham, AL — a regional broadcast news organization serving Central Alabama
- Manage building access and security operations including gate control, main entrance, lobby, and side entrances; monitor camera systems covering the parking lot, entrances, and facility perimeter. Serve as the first point of contact when a security concern arises — a responsibility that carries real weight in a newsroom environment.
- Operate the front-desk switchboard (VIP 7) and provide executive-level administrative support to the General Manager (VP) and Business Administration/HR leadership, managing calendars, communications, and priority scheduling across departments.
- Own vendor relationships across office supplies, printing, pest control, and printer servicing — serving as primary point of contact, coordinating procurement, and managing delivery and fulfillment. Coordinate with a local printing company for business cards and large-format event signage.
- Order food and catering for news and weather team meetings, critique nights, and on-call weather-aware coverage; order birthday cakes for staff celebrations.
- Maintain the breakroom — keeping coffee and tea stocked, cleaning and maintaining the coffee machine, and coordinating with the vending company on bean restocking and servicing.
- Process and reconcile expense reports, invoices, and corporate credit card transactions using SAP Concur and DocLink; reduced payment processing delays by 75% through streamlined documentation workflows. Maintain alphabetical paper filing for processed invoices and coordinate bi-quarterly document shredding with the admin team.
- Support the HR coordination cycle for the Business Administration/HR department — posting job openings received from leadership across Handshake, the company career page, College Central, and the Alabama Broadcasters Association, and building interview folders with note-taking sheets for hiring managers to use during candidate interviews.
- Plan and execute company events and serve on the annual holiday party planning committee, managing logistics and vendor coordination.
- Serve as the central communication hub for staff, vendors, and stakeholders — triaging issues and ensuring cross-departmental alignment in a high-volume news environment.
- Manage mail and shipping logistics, including carrier pickups and distributing incoming packages to staff; regularly train front-desk coverage to ensure operations continue smoothly in my absence.
